By now you may have noticed the new blogad that is appearing at DailyKos about the Virginia Governor's race.
It Stops in Virginia highlights how Virginia Democrat Tim Kaine is aggressively fighting back against dishonest attack ads
created by the same consultants who ran despicable ads against Tom Daschle and Max Cleland.
If you, like me, watched with impotent rage as the Kerry campaign failed to fight back effectively against the Swift Boat ads, you'll be proud of Virginia's Democratic candidate for Governor. Here's an excerpt from Tim Kaine's video message about fighting back:
[Narrator]: Kaine's Republican opponent, Jerry Kilgore, has resorted to divisive negative attacks while offering no new ideas. But this year, in Virginia, things are different.
[Tim Kaine]: Unlike some Democrats, I'm not gonna sit back when attacked. I'm going to stand up and fight for what's right. But I need your help. Please click on the Contribute button and send a message that Democrats are alive, strong, and fighting for Virginia's future.
Here's the full (unofficial) transcript of Tim Kaine's video message about fighting back:
[Narrator]: In 2005, Virginia is the only red state holding a statewide election. Democrats in Virginia are fighting for Democratic values by talking straight, standing up to Republicans who go too far, but working with them to get things done. It's called leadership.
[Tim Kaine]: I'm Tim Kaine, and I'm running to be Virginia's next governor. Virginia deserves a strong leader. I've fought crime, cut taxes, balanced budgets, and built schools. I didn't meet those challenges by being afraid to lead.
[Narrator]: Democrats are fighting back in Virginia, and they need your help to get the job done.
Gee, Tim, tell us what you really think about Democrats who don't fight back! Wow. Giddyup!
National Republicans have already shown that they'll stop at nothing to make up outrageous lies about Tim Kaine.
For instance, the Kilgore campaign took digs at Kaine's "faith credentials", accusing him of only talking about his faith because it is politically popular. Tim Kaine spent a year of his life as a Christian missionary in Honduras, and they're accusing him of insincere faith.
But the good thing is, the Kaine campaign isn't passively taking these attacks. They jumped on the Kilgore campaign for questioning Kaine's faith, and they responded quickly to the misleading ad featured in the It Stops in Virignia campaign.
You can watch this message from Tim Kaine here. See the dishonest Kilgore-sanctioned attack ad as well as Tim Kaine's response ad here.
And if this is what you like to see from a Democratic campaign, I hope you'll see fit to throw some turkee in Kaine's direction.
